Full speed ahead

monster roughs

I’m steaming full speed ahead – developing more monsters for Monster School, since I have promised my students will get a free colouring booklet to take home after their workshop. I’m also getting some photos together to promote my leather pouch workshop coming up Saturday, November 4, at Mangled Studio, and getting some things together for a pop-up store at SkyBlue Art Studio in November as well. Coming up fast!

Here’s a little collection of leather working stuff – I think I will make a more pleasing composition for Tools Of The Trade #2 on Instagram.

The little crease in the lower left hand corner is because once I completed the sewing for this piece, I realized it would need a little stretching to accommodate a small bundle of credit cards. I put the cards in one at a time and left them to stretch the pliable leather. It worked quite well.

Touchdown and liftoff

It’s been a while since I updated this blog, but lots has happened in the meantime. I taught Monster School and expect to be teaching it again this fall, once my dates are confirmed. I had a full house and the girls had a blast. For some reason, they were all girls! We’ll see who shows up for the next ones.

There were some roadblocks in the way earlier this year, There was a health issue that seems to have been completely resolved but was pretty energy-sapping, and a flood in my apartment. Getting that cleaned up and fixed up took a goodly amount of the little energy I had to spare, but fortunately the damage was minimal.

I’m feeling much better now, thank you. I’m looking forward to a great autumn. Bring on leather weather, chai lattes and pumpkin muffins!

Now that I’m all fired up and rolling, expect new things coming soon. My new website just needs a few more photos and some proofreading and link-checking and it will be ready to go. Monster School has spawned a few things which you’ll be able to see once the website’s live. I’ve been doing a lot of drawing and you’ll also see the results of that flurry of activity.

In short, I’ve been busy and it’s really exciting! Stay tuned.

Fall back

I’m just going to have to pace myself

There are only two days left of summer this year, which seems like a fine time to think about the autumn to come. It’s been a hot and sticky summer, and I’ve spent a certain amount of it lurking in shady places, waiting for it to cool down to a more comfortable level.

That level is approaching now. The only problem is that now I have so much I want to do, I’m just going to have to pace myself. This seems like a good place to share some of the goings-on.

A fresh and updated A.M. Reid website is in the works and should be ready soon, with lots of tweaks and content updates. Madgleam Illumination  is about due for some new additions, since darker days need brighter lights.

I’ve been stocking up on tools for myself and for workshops, and I’m looking forward to continuing to create, experiment and teach.

The next workshop I’ll be teaching is Monster School, teaching kids from 5 on up to draw monsters, in good time for Hallowe’en. Here’s a taste:
